For the past 10 years, Dr. Epstein has been building on his 24 years of performing hair transplantation by developing expertise in follicular unit extraction (FUE), now the most common technique chosen by men and women.
There are a variety of devices that are used to extract grafts for FUE. Dr. Epstein and his team including Dr. Bared use their own custom-designed E-Fue system, its advantage being optimal graft extraction with minimal donor site scarring.
NeoGraft ™ is another device that can extract grafts for FUE, but because of its aggressive marketing to a susceptible public as well as it being packaged for doctors – many with little to no experience performing hair restoration- who want to add hair transplantation to their practices, it is growing in popularity.
So turn-key is NeoGraft ™ that doctors not only are provided the device, a set of stock before and after photos of other doctors’ patients that they can use in their marketing to deceive prospective patients that this is the doctor’s own work but is actually not (please visit our photo gallery and see thousands of Dr. Epstein’s own before and after photos HERE, and even the team of technicians who actually perform most (even in some cases, nearly all) of the procedure, from graft harvesting and placement to even hairline design and recipient site formation – the latter being absolutely key steps that a true hair restoration surgeon like Dr. Epstein would only perform himself and would never consider allowing a “tech-for-hire” to do on a patient, while some of the steps of the procedure such as graft placement and extraction he carefully oversees as he is assisted by his talented team of hair technicians who average over 11 years working with him full time.
So, despite how it has been marketed, NeoGraft ™ is not a hair transplant, rather it is a technique used by many doctors as a way to perform the FUE procedure, nothing more, nothing less.
All importantly, the results of any hair transplant is NOT dependent on the device used for graft extraction, but rather the expertise of the surgeon in making recipient sites, and the experience and talent of the people extracting the grafts, handling them and dissecting them to prepare them, and then planting them.
Neograft ™ or FUE? Our Foundation Doctors’ Approach
Under the guidance of Dr. Epstein, at the Foundation for Hair Restoration we use the E=Fue System, our preferred method for performing hair restoration because of the outstanding grafts it produces when used by experienced hands and the minimal donor site scarring.
As described above, NeoGraft ™ is merely a machine that a hair transplant surgeon can use to extract grafts that is heavily marketed and that provides a turn-key approach for these often inexperienced doctors.
Our E-Fue System uses the smallest possible tools to extract the very best grafts with the lowest risk of tiny dot scarring in the donor area.
Any hair transplant procedure, when performed at the Foundation, is typically painless, due to the advanced anesthesia techniques we utilize.
There is typically minimal bleeding during the graft extraction process, and the donor area typically heals within four days.
For procedures of more than 700 to 800 grafts, the back and or sides of the head will be shaved, but once the donor sites heal up at four days, it just looks like the patient cut his hair very short, allowing a return to public without a hat on in less than a week.
