Grafts for FUE or FUG

06/16/2013 by Dr. Jeffrey Epstein

Is it true that there is more potential for the grafts to become damaged with FUE than with the strip method?

Question:

Is it true that there is more potential for the grafts to become damaged with FUE than with the strip method?  Why is this?  What percentage can you expect?

Answer:Yes, it is generally thought by most hair restoration physicians that there can be more follicular damage with the FUE technique versus the strip technique.  This is because there is an individual blade that is trying to encircle each follicular unit as compared to just a single blade used to cut the periphery of a strip.  However, with some of the new automated devices used now for FUE, the percentage of damage has been significantly reduced.  There is a closing gap occurring between the damage incurred during FUE, follicular unit extraction, and the strip graft extraction.
