At the age of 25 there is still a significant risk of further progression of hair loss; therefore, I usually discourage patients from having a procedure at this young age. However, there are exceptions to this rule and that notably is when there is a need or desire to fill in the frontal forelock to restore density. Because of the possibility that the patient may want to shave his head in the future, I will go ahead and usually recommend the FUE technique. For women, 25 is really not too young for such a procedure as long as she understands that there is likely to be further progression of hair loss. However, some well placed grafts in the areas of thinning can make a big difference in females. In any case, the patient needs to be individually evaluated and assessed by an experienced surgeon.
