The hair transplant procedure is ideally suited
to be performed on a fly-in/fly-out basis. An overnight
stay in a local hotel is recommended after the procedure;
however the patient may fly the same day. The patient's
hair is washed in the office the first day, and the sutures Dr. Epstein uses for most cases are absorbable, meaning they do not need to be removed.
We have patients from
every state in the US except North Dakota. The cities below are simply examples of where many of
Dr. Epstein's patients travel from. No matter where
you are located, you can experience the most natural
and artistic hair transplants results possible.

Many patients have questions about traveling
to have the procedure. As such, we have provided a question
and answer section below:
Where is the office located?
The office is located in South Miami, about
15 minutes from downtown Miami, 10 minutes from Coral
Gables, 10 minutes from Coconut Grove, and 20 minutes
from Miami Beach. Click
here for our address and directions to our office. In
addition, consults can be seen in the Boca Raton office.

Is it possible to coincide traveling
for my procedure with a vacation or time off with my
family?
Yes, it is. As a general rule of thumb, you
should allocate one full day to the procedure plus resting
after the procedure. On that first day your hair will
be washed, and you won't have to return to the office.
By the second day, your head may be slightly to somewhat
tender, but you will be okay to enjoy some time with
your family.
Especially since we are in south Florida,
you'll need to take precautions to keep your head out
of the sun. Wearing a hat is strongly recommended if
you will be in the sun, but most activities are permitted
the very next day.
Some of Dr. Epstein's patients have enjoyed
mini-vacations after the procedure. J.K., who arrived
from Puerto Rico for the procedure, was able to spend
some quiet time relaxing while visiting with family members.
According to J.K., "Only the first day was a little hectic.
After that, everything was back to usual. Since I was
always wearing a hat before the surgery anyway, wearing
a hat wasn't even a big deal."

Is it possible to be active
and do things without a hat after the surgery?
Yes, it is possible to enjoy your time in
south Florida without a hat after surgery. Dr. Epstein
recommends Toppik for coverage of the area that has been
transplanted, and patients have had tremendous success
with it.
According to R.B., the time right after the
procedure isn't nearly as different as he would have
expected. "In fact," he said, "I went to dinner with
my friends the night of the procedure." He added, "this
was pretty nerve-racking since I didn't want anyone to
know I had gotten hair transplants, and I wasn't sure
about it, but after putting on the Toppik Dr. Epstein
gave me, it was pretty much impossible to tell. I spent
a week after the procedure in Coconut Grove and had a
great time."

Do I need to bring someone with me
if I travel for the procedure?
It is always nice to have someone with you,
but it is not necessary. There are several hotels within
5 minutes of the office, and transportation is easily
arranged by our office if you wish.
Top
What happens after the surgery? What
is the recovery time?
Usually, the total procedure time is 3
to 5 hours. After that, you may be somewhat drowsy and
a few hours of recovery time is helpful. You can either
return to your hotel after the surgery, or stay in one
of Dr. Epstein's recovery rooms for a few hours, where
you can relax and enjoy some lunch or dinner.
Top
What about follow-up? Isn't it more
difficult to be so far away after the procedure has
been done?
Post procedure follow-up is just as effective even when the patient is outside of South Florida. Dr. Epstein uses absorbable sutures for most patients, so that they do not need to be removed. After that, the same steps are taken by out-of-state patients as those taken by local patients. There is no disadvantage to being outside of Florida or NYC.
Top
Does flying have a negative
impact on the procedure?
No, there is no negative impact
from flying after your procedure.
Top
Does Dr. Epstein have a
lot of experience with patients traveling for their
procedure?
Yes. For over 10 years, Dr. Epstein
has been performing hair transplants on many patients
who have flown in for procedures. In fact, approximately
40% of his patients fly in from other states and other
countries. The hair transplant procedure is ideally suited
for being performed on a fly in/fly out basis, with an
extremely low incidence rate of complications and very
easy post-procedure care. The office and Dr. Epstein
are always available to assist patients with any concerns
or questions they may have after the procedure.
