Eyebrow Transplants Changing The Way You Look
Hair Is Taken From Back Of Head

Years of over-plucking left Anita Stowers with no eyebrows.

"In my quest to have perfect brows, I went overboard," she said.

Like so many women, Stowers had no idea her eyebrows wouldn't grow back - and while she tried everything to cover them up, from make-up to tattoos, she said she always felt self-conscious about the unnatural look.

"It's like my whole life revolved around whether I had my eyebrows on straight that day or not," said Stowers.

Now, she is undergoing a new cosmetic treatment, an eyebrow transplant. In a series of procedures, hair follicles are taken from the back of her head then implanted along her eyebrow line one at a time.

"We altogether have done around 600 graphs and you can compare the before to the after, she now has eyebrows," said Anita's doctor, Jeffrey Epstein, who specializes in hair restoration.

Why are eyebrows so important to your look?

Famous Manhattan eyebrow shaper Christine Chin compares missing brows to a picture without a frame.

"It can make you look very evil," said Christine.

Epstein said he performs at least two eyebrow transplants a week.

"The most common reason for the loss of eyebrows is over plucking, laser hair removal, trauma and age," said Epstein. The brows may not be perfect because just like the hair on your head, these transplanted brows will keep on growing, and quickly. But Epstein says they are very close to being natural.

"Yes, they do need to trim them but it's a huge difference for these patients," said Epstein.

"I'm more confident, I'm not always thinking somebody is staring at me because of my awful make-up job," said Anita.

Generally, patients are presentable within four to five days of the treatment, which can cost anywhere from $4,000 to $8,000.
