Questions about traveling

Approximately 70% of our hair transplant patients travel to our offices from throughout the US and the world for their hair restoration procedures. In fact, Dr. Epstein has performed procedures on patients from 49 of the 50 United States, and from over 40 countries. It requires a surgeon with a trained hand to create the most natural appearing result that mimics mother nature and is undetectable to even the most critical eye. To ensure delivery of these results to the Foundation for Hair Restoration patients, Dr. Epstein has extended its affiliation solely to those hand-selected surgeons throughout the country who are Diplomates of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and/or the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and who have proven themselves to be as committed to perfection as Dr. Epstein.

On average, how many sutures or stitches does the donor area get? Does it vary widely from, say a 3500 graft procedure to a 2000 graft procedure? Thanks. Jon

Update on 4,000 grafts to the chest- most grafts are going to take!
Posted December 10, 2008 10:13 PM in Body Hair Transplants

I had ~4000 grafts to the chest mid-August '08 with no significant discomfort other than some itching about 1 week later as the grafts healed.  The procedure itself was no big deal and virtually painless. Many of the hairs fell out after a few weeks but several stayed and the only noticeable change was a few small bumps here and there where the implanted grafts were placed. Some of the new hairs started growing in around 2 1/2 months and many more by 3. It's going on 4 months now and there's noticeable change in the overall appearance. Looks like most if not all of the grafts are going to take. My thanks to Dr. E and crew for an easy and almost pleasurable procedure. Updates to follow!

I had a transplant procedure 2 months ago, and some of the transplanted hairs have yet to fall out.  Will this interfere with the growth of the new hairs?

Can you lose grafts from wearing a hat, sleeping or washing?
Posted December 09, 2008 12:08 PM in the future procedures

Dear Dr. Epstein,

I am considering having my second transplant in the future.

After my first tranplant I was concerned that I may have lost some grafts due to wearing a hat (which I require for work) and also I had some concern about loosing grafts while sleeping and washing.

Could you please tell me, If I do decide to have another transplant, at what time do the grafts become totally secure in the scalp? (in how many days/weeks)

Also for what reason do you believe this to be the case?

Kindest Regards
